ABOUT

Kelly Smith is a Marine Corps Veteran with service in the Infantry and Security Forces. He has been a police officer since 1997 and occupied roles during his tenure as police officer as a Special Response Team Commander, Task Force Officer for the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), Patrol Sergeant, and Chief of Police. He currently holds a Master Peace Officer License with over 8,300 hours of training. He has been an adjunct instructor with the East Texas Police Academy for about ten years. Kelly has coordinated local police academies and provided training for local agencies and local school districts. The training that Kelly has provided has given local officers, teachers and citizens tools that they have used to keep themselves safe in urban and rural environments. Some of the training that Kelly obtained throughout his career has been advantageous to the private community and the law enforcement community.

 

Kelly obtained his degrees from Tyler Junior College, LeTourneau University and Master Degree classes at Seminary and the University of Virginia. Kelly graduated from the 240th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA where he received valuable training that he continues to bring back to East Texas.

 

Kelly has instructor licenses in over 14 areas pertaining to firearms instruction and defensive tactics. He has been a licensed firearms instructor through Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Education since 1999. Licenses such as Concealed Handgun Instructor, NRA Pistol and Rifle Instructor, NRA Firearms Safety for the Home, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Police Rifle Instructor have proven to be helpful to the East Texas community in protecting themselves and their homes. He has started a cadet type program for young adults interested in law enforcement called the Explorers in three surrounding communities, led citizen police academies, coordinated Crime Watch groups and obtained national awards for National Night Out events which brings citizens and law enforcement together in order to suppress crime.

 

During his tenure in law enforcement Kelly has received over 30 letters of commendations from various district attorney’s, police chiefs, judges, VFW Posts, and constables. Some of the most noteworthy are his induction into the Police Hall of Fame by the Texas State House of Representatives and the recipient of the state flag. United States House of Representative Congressman Henserling presented Kelly with an award for Public Service and invited him and his officers for a tour of the White House. He also received a proclamation from a local commissioners’ court for his public service. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers, International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, National and International Association of Chiefs of Police, a Lifetime Member of the American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association. He holds a levels II, III and IV security officer licenses and personal protection officer licenses along with being a licensed private investigator.

 

Kelly brings his widespread law enforcement experience, his love for his community and the tactics and skills that God has blessed him with to the classroom and range in order to keep you and your family safe. You will rest assured in knowing that you will learn not only from Kelly’s training but from the experiences that he has had along the way. Kelly will teach you how to defend yourself in ways that can only be offered from those with training and experience such as his. He offers techniques not only in concealed handgun but also in unarmed defensive tactics, shotgun defense and rifle tactics. There are many options that citizens have when it comes to obtaining training but Kelly knows that the techniques that he has learned from his many instructors over the years and his experience that you will find it time well spent. If you will invest a small portion of your time in skills that Kelly hopes you will never need you can rest at night knowing you have invested in you and your family’s safety.

 

Kelly also offers a tactical analysis of your home so that you can obtain ideas in defending your home against intruders without harming your family on a case by case basis.

 

 

 

 

STAFF

Dusty Cook

Dusty is an active Peace Officer and has been a certified Peace Officer since 2005. During his career he served as a Field Training Officer, Sergeant, Criminal Investigator, and Captain. Dusty currently holds an Advanced Peace Officer’s License with over 2,200 hours of documented training.

Dusty is a Certified Firearms Instructor through the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement with Advanced Firearms Instruction Methods. Dusty has been a Certified Field Training Officer since 2007. Throughout his career Dusty has successfully attended the Texas FBINAA Command College as well as the Bill Blackwood LEMIT Command Staff Leadership Series. Dusty is a certified SWAT Officer through Texas Tactical Police Officer’s Association. He has attended and successfully completed numerous firearms training schools throughout the country.

Dusty is certified in Hazardous Materials Response as well as Weapons of Mass Destruction Response, and Response to Terrorism. He is trained to the highest level of the Incident Management System as well as successfully attended The COBRA Facility in Anniston Alabama receiving hands on training with Chemical, Ordnance, Biological, and Radiological materials.

Dusty has received several awards and commendation letters for his dedicated service to his community and others. Dusty believes that everyone should be prepared and trained to the highest level possible and that training should never stop. He also believes in early youth development. Dusty is a member of several boards in the area involving youth development and spends countless hours each year serving the youth of his community and others.

Dusty believes he can pass along skills and techniques he has learned over the years to help students become safer and more effective in protecting their family and themselves.
