Pet Wellness
Regular wellness exams allow your veterinarian to evaluate your pet’s general health and become aware of any health problems before they become serious illnesses. Since your pet cannot vocalize his feelings, you must rely on regular physical examinations by a veterinarian and your at-home observations to assess your pet’s health. Your veterinarian may also wish to perform diagnostic tests, including blood tests and/or x-rays, to evaluate your pet’s health.
Wellness Exams
Similar to people, pets need to visit the veterinarian more often as they get older in order to prevent and treat illnesses that come with age. AAHA recommends that healthy dogs and cats visit the veterinarian once a year for a complete exam and laboratory testing. Healthy senior dogs and cats should receive a wellness exam and lab testing every six months. Depending on your pet’s age and health, your veterinarian will suggest an appropriate physical examination schedule to help keep your pet in tip-top shape.
We will request a complete history of your pet’s health. Don’t forget to mention any unusual behavior that you have noticed in your pet, including:
-
Coughing
-
Diarrhea
-
Eating more than usual
-
Excessive drinking of water, panting, scratching or urination
-
Vomiting
-
Weight gain or weight loss
Surgical Center
From spay and neuter services to more complex veterinary surgical procedures, your neighborhood Lindale Vet Clinic always operates with safety in mind. In fact, we use many of the same safety measures as human hospitals. Performing most of the pre‐surgery blood work at our in-house lab, we are able to make sure your pet is healthy enough for the procedure.
Depending on the urgent nature of the surgery, pre‐surgical abnormalities will be addressed, drug selections may be modified and sometimes surgeries are postponed or even canceled until the surgical team feels the surgery is safe to perform.
Once anesthesia is deemed safe for the patient, we use specialized monitoring equipment to track vital signs and pay close attention to ensure the best possible outcome for your pet. Below you'll find a list of common procedures for cats and dogs, along with links to important information about veterinary surgery.
Grooming / Nail Care
Good grooming will help your dog look and feel his best. Routine grooming sessions allow us to examine your dog's coat, teeth, eyes, ears, and nails for signs of problems. Fur that becomes matted can cause serious health issues for your pet. Dirt and oils can accumulate under mats and cause painful skin infections, and the mats themselves can be painful as they pull and stretch the skin underneath. Severe matting can even affect your pet’s ability to see, walk and eat normally. For dogs and cats, long nails can become painful and interfere with their ability to walk. Keeping nails short also helps you protect your floors and furniture from being scratched and your clothes from being snagged.
Dentistry
Regular veterinary dental care is one of the most important ways to promote pet health. Lindale V et Clinic will help you develop the best dental plan for your pet. This includes professional teeth cleaning for dogs and cats, any necessary extractions, as well as diet, pet nutrition and recommendations for a good at‐home dental care routine.
Periodontal disease can be prevented, treated and even reversed if caught early. Together, you and LVC can protect your pet against the havoc of periodontal disease, such as heart disease and kidney failure, by maintaining your pet's dental health.
